About This Service
Septic Tank Replacement From the Team South England Relies On
Since 1 January 2020 the Environment Agency's general binding rules have not allowed a septic tank to discharge directly to a river, stream or ditch. If yours does, it must be replaced or upgraded, usually by connecting to the mains sewer where one is in reach, installing a small sewage treatment plant, or installing a drainage field. If the property is sold, the buyer and seller need to agree who will do the work.
Not every problem needs a new tank. We start by emptying the tank and inspecting the tank, baffles and pipework, and we CCTV the drainage field pipes when systems keep backing up. If a repair will do, we'll say so. If the tank or field has failed, we'll explain the options and give a clear quote.
Failing tanks and drainage fields often show up in autumn and winter, when the ground is wetter and the drainage field can't take the water away. That's the time to get it looked at, before sewage backs up into the house.

How It Works
Our Process
- 1
Inspect
We empty the tank and check its condition, the baffles, the inlet and outlet pipework and where it discharges. A CCTV survey of the drainage field pipes if needed.
- 2
Explain the options
Repair, a new septic tank with a drainage field, a sewage treatment plant, or connection to the mains sewer — with a clear quote for each that suits your site.
- 3
Install
Our groundworks team excavates, installs the new tank or treatment plant and pipework, and builds or replaces the drainage field where needed.
- 4
Sign-off
New systems need Building Regulations approval. We provide the documentation, reinstate the ground and leave the system working.

Areas We Cover
Septic Tank Replacement is available across our core Hampshire and border-town coverage area, where we run rapid call-outs day and night:
We also frequently take on projects across neighbouring counties — particularly larger commercial and CCTV survey work — including Hampshire, Surrey, West Sussex, East Sussex, Berkshire, Wiltshire, Dorset, Oxfordshire, Kent and London. County-level coverage focuses on planned and commercial work rather than routine call-outs.

Septic Tank Replacement FAQs
Yes. Under the Environment Agency's general binding rules, septic tanks in England must not discharge directly to surface water such as a river, stream or ditch. The usual fixes are a drainage field, a small sewage treatment plant, or connecting to the mains sewer if one is nearby.
