Soakaway Replacement & Installation Across Hampshire

A failed soakaway shows up as standing water on the drive or lawn, overflowing gullies, or downpipes backing up in heavy rain. A&B Drainage Solutions replaces failed soakaways and installs new ones across Hampshire, using modern plastic crate systems sized from a percolation test of your ground.

About This Service

Soakaway Replacement From the Team South England Relies On

Older soakaways were often just a pit of rubble. Over time silt and soil clog the gaps until the pit holds water instead of letting it drain away. Modern polypropylene crate soakaways hold far more water for the same size of hole and are wrapped in geotextile to keep soil out, so they keep working for much longer.

Every installation starts with a percolation test to BRE 365. It measures how fast your ground absorbs water and sets the size of the new soakaway. Ground conditions vary a lot across Hampshire, from free-draining chalk to heavy clay. Where the ground won't take a soakaway, we'll recommend an alternative such as an attenuation tank or a connection to a surface water sewer.

Soakaway problems usually appear in autumn and winter, when the ground is already wet and rainfall is heavier. If water is pooling now, it's worth fixing before the worst of the winter weather.

How It Works

Our Process

  1. 1

    Find the cause

We trace the pipework, CCTV it if needed and confirm whether the soakaway itself has failed or a pipe to it is blocked or broken.

  2. 2

    Percolation test

We measure how fast the ground drains to BRE 365 and calculate the soakaway size for your roof and hard-standing area.

  3. 3

    Install

Excavation at a safe distance from buildings, crate system with geotextile wrap, inlet pipework and careful backfill.

  4. 4

    Reinstate and sign-off

Lawn, gravel or paving put back. Documentation provided where Building Control sign-off is needed, such as for extensions and new builds.

Soakaway Replacement FAQs

Common signs are water pooling on the drive or lawn after rain, gullies or downpipes overflowing, and water that takes days to disappear. Sometimes the soakaway is fine and the pipe to it is blocked, so we check the pipework first.
